For granular or solid materials, a multi-head scale or linear scale must be selected separately. The product shown in the figure consists of a rotary main unit paired with a powder screw conveyor and a screw feeder.

If what is referred to as a “solid” is actually a powder or a single cookie on a conveyor belt, the information on this page does not apply. These production lines weigh each grain or piece of material, feed it into a packaging bag, and seal it. The main equipment can be a rotary pre-made bag packaging machine or a vertical form-fill-seal machine that uses film to form the bags.
This page features two primary packaging machine options: rotary systems for pre-made pouches, and VFFS units that create bags from roll film (standard or high-speed snack bagging equipment).

Which packaging bag corresponds to which machine?
The bag style dictates the main machine. Pre-made pouches pair with rotary packaging machines. Roll film requiring in-line forming, filling and sealing works with vertical form-fill-seal machines — standard units or larger high-speed snack baggers, sized to suit the bag dimensions. The filling device is a weigher chosen based on your actual product.

How this machine really works – Operating Principle

01-Deliver the granules
Deliver a constant feed to the weigher, avoiding broken pieces and material bridging. The elevator or infeed is specified together with the weigher; it is not presumed within every host machine quote.

02-Weigh the portion
Multihead or linear weighers are chosen based on particle size, product flow characteristics and target weight. Snack products bring extra considerations of fragility, oil content and drop height. This application is not suitable for an auger filler.

03-Present the pouch and fill
For the rotary system, the main machine grips and opens a pre-made pouch at the filling station. By contrast, on the VFFS setup, the bag is created from roll film wrapped around the fill tube.

04-Seal and transfer downstream
The pouch gets sealed and ejected. Prevent fines and seasoning powder from contaminating the seal zone. Gas flushing, coding and inspection are configured per project requirements and are not automatically included in every quotation.
Roll film or premade pouches? Roll film is delivered wound around a core, and the machine forms the bags directly on the production line. Premade pouches arrive already formed, so the machine simply fills and seals them. The rotary host featured on this page uses premade pouches. Forming pouches from rollstock film follows the VFFS route. Flow wrapping a single piece on a belt is not a separate third host covered in this chapter — it is explained on the flow-wrap machine page.
Line Scope What Comes Before and After the Machine
A host quote does not include a complete granule packaging line. The weigher is chosen to match the host, while coding, gas flushing and inspection equipment are added as needed for each project. The weigher shown in the photo is not included in every quotation.
